Reflectors & Diffusers

Reflectors and diffusers shape the light you already have instead of adding more of it. Our range from Godox and Neewer includes 5-in-1 reflectors that bounce sunlight or flash back onto your subject in white, silver, gold, or black, with a diffuser panel included in most kits to soften hard midday sun or harsh flash into something more flattering. Curved reflectors wrap light around a subject for portraits, while larger flat panels cover product tables or small group shots. Match the size to your subject, not just your budget, a small disc won't do much for a two-person portrait.

Reflector FAQs

Reflectors and diffusers shape existing sunlight, continuous lighting, or studio flashes rather than adding extra light fixtures to your set:

  • Reflectors: Bounce ambient light or flash back onto your subject to lift dark shadows, add eye catchlights, and balance exposure without needing extra power sources.
  • Diffusers: Translucent panels placed directly between a harsh light source (such as direct midday sun or raw flash) and your subject to soften hard shadow edges and create smooth illumination.
  • 5-in-1 Multi-Reflectors (e.g., Godox and Neewer): Feature a core translucent diffuser panel wrapped inside a reversible zippered cover containing four reflective surfaces (white, silver, gold, and black), providing five light-shaping tools in a single collapsible frame.

Each reversible surface on a 5-in-1 reflector serves a distinct visual purpose on set:

  • Translucent Diffuser: Softens harsh direct sunlight or direct flash, reducing harsh contrast on faces and skin.
  • White: Reflects soft, natural neutral bounce light for gentle fill in portraits without altering colour temperature.
  • Silver: Yields high-contrast, specular bounce reflection to increase light throw and highlight fine details.
  • Gold: Casts a warm, golden reflected light over subjects to emulate late-afternoon golden-hour sunlight and warm up skin tones.
  • Black (Negative Fill): Absorbs stray light spill and blocks unwanted reflections to create deeper, richer shadows and add dramatic facial contouring.

A curved reflector (or eye-light clam-shell reflector) features an arc-shaped concave frame designed to sit below a subject's chest level:

  • Seamless Wrap-Around Fill: Bounces light from an overhead key light upward, filling under-eye and neck shadows smoothly while wrapping clean light around facial contours.
  • Natural Eye Catchlights: Creates a continuous crescent-shaped catchlight across the lower iris that matches the natural curvature of human eyes, creating striking beauty and headshot portraiture.

Reflector size must match the physical scale of your subject to provide adequate light coverage:

  • Small Discs (60cm to 80cm): Compact and lightweight for tight headshots, macro work, and single-person close-ups.
  • Medium Discs & Frames (110cm Circular): The versatile standard for solo content creation, half-body portraits, and general outdoor location work.
  • Large Panel Sizes (120x180cm / 150x200cm): Essential for full-body fashion shoots, large product table setups, and two-person or small group portraits where smaller discs fail to cover the whole frame.

Securing reflectors onto light stands ensures precise, repeatable light placement when working without an assistant:

  • Telescopic Reflector Arms: Extendable boom arms that grip collapsible reflector rims at two points, mounting directly onto standard light stands to angle panels precisely overhead or from the side.
  • Reflector Clamps: Heavy-duty spring clamps equipped with light stand studs that clip onto the outer spring rim of pop-up discs for quick single-stand mounting.
  • Modular Panel Frames & C-Stands: Larger 120x180cm and 150x200cm panel diffusers mount onto rigid aluminium collapsible tubing frames secured to heavy-duty C-stands via grip heads for stability in studio or windy outdoor conditions.
