The Godox Folding Backdrop is a 150x200cm collapsible background that folds to a third of its original size and comes with a carry bag. Available in multiple textures and finishes, each double-sided for two backgrounds in one. Works with strobes, LED panels, and natural light. A practical solution for photographers who shoot on location and need professional backgrounds without the hassle of a full backdrop stand system.
What the Godox Folding Backdrop Does
The Godox Folding Backdrop works on the same principle as a collapsible reflector. A spring-loaded internal frame holds the backdrop taut and flat when open. When you are done, fold it into thirds, apply light pressure, and it collapses into the included carry bag. Deployed, you have 150x200cm of usable background.
That size covers headshots, three-quarter portraits, and with careful positioning, full-length work. It is not a replacement for a full studio backdrop system, but for most location and home-studio shooting it gives you everything you need.
Each backdrop is double-sided, so you get two different looks in a single package. The textures are designed with photographic use in mind rather than general-purpose use. Mottled finishes that add visual depth without competing with your subject. Rustic surfaces that read as authentic character in the final image. Abstract patterns that give commercial and editorial work a distinct, intentional feel.
- Size: 150x200cm when fully open.
- Packed size: Folds to approximately a third of its deployed size.
- Double-sided: Two textures or finishes per backdrop.
- Included: Carry bag for transport and storage.
- Compatible with: Studio strobes, LED continuous lights, and natural light.

"When you unfold the backdrop, keep it pointed away from your face and your body. There is a serious spring to it and it will not give you any warning before it introduces itself to your face. Or lower. Open it at arm's length with the surface facing away from you and let it go. Consider yourself warned."

Getting the Most Out of a Textured Backdrop
A textured backdrop is only as good as the light that hits it. Front-on flat lighting will flatten the surface and you lose most of what makes a textured finish interesting. Move your light to the side and you start to see every contour in the material come alive.
The most reliable technique for portrait work with a textured backdrop is to separate your subject lighting from your background lighting completely. Light your subject first. Then add a dedicated light aimed directly at the backdrop to saturate the colour and bring out the pattern and texture. This is called a backdrop drop, and it is one of the most straightforward ways to add visual depth to an image.
A few things that help:
- Keep your subject off the backdrop. A metre or more of separation prevents the background light from spilling onto your subject and muddying your exposure.
- Control the backdrop light independently. Being able to adjust it separately from your subject lighting lets you dial in exactly how much the texture reads in the image.
- Rotate the backdrop. Each side gives you a different look, and flipping a textured backdrop can completely change the feel of a shot without changing your setup at all.
- Shake it out before shooting. Fold lines from storage soften quickly once the backdrop is hanging, but give it a shake when you open it and let it settle before you start.

"Aim a dedicated light directly at the backdrop. This is called a backdrop drop. It brings out the texture, colour, and pattern in the surface rather than flattening them under ambient spill. It is one of the simplest ways to add visual depth to an image without touching your subject lighting at all."

ViewFrequently Asked Questions
What size is the Godox Folding Backdrop?
The Godox Folding Backdrop measures 150x200cm when fully deployed. It folds down to approximately a third of that size and fits into the included carry bag. The 150x200cm working area is sufficient for headshots, three-quarter portraits, and full-length work with careful positioning.
Are the Godox Folding Backdrops double-sided?
Yes. Each Godox Folding Backdrop is double-sided, giving you two different looks in a single backdrop. The two sides typically offer complementary textures or finishes, so you can switch between them without changing your setup.
Do I need a backdrop stand to use the Godox Folding Backdrop?
No. The Godox Folding Backdrop has a built-in spring-loaded frame that holds it open and flat without a stand. You can lean it against a wall, hang it from a hook, or hold it in position. For hands-free use on location, a simple backdrop stand or a clamp works well, but neither is required to get the backdrop up and usable.
What type of photography works best with the Godox Folding Backdrop?
The Godox Folding Backdrop is primarily designed for portrait, headshot, fashion, and product photography. The textured and patterned finishes work particularly well for creative and editorial portraiture where you want the background to add character to the image. For plain solid-colour backgrounds, a traditional paper or vinyl sweep would be a different tool with different strengths.
