The Rode VideoMic NTG is a hybrid analogue and USB on-camera shotgun microphone that puts broadcast-grade, highly directional sound onto a camera, phone, recorder, or computer from a single mic, with no adapters.

It uses the same annular line tube acoustic design as Rode's NTG5 broadcast shotgun, with acoustic perforations in place of the usual linear slots, for transparent, natural, uncoloured sound. The supercardioid pattern focuses on what is in front while attenuating the sides and rear, and low-noise electronics with a sensitive condenser capsule capture more detail than a camera's built-in mic. An auto-sensing 3.5mm TRRS output switches between TRS and TRRS automatically, so it connects to cameras, recorders, and phones without adapter cables, while USB-C turns it into a full 24-bit/48kHz USB microphone for a computer or phone. Continuously variable gain, a -20dB pad and peak warning light, a 75Hz or 150Hz high-pass filter, a high-frequency boost, and a selectable safety channel give you control over the signal, and in USB mode the 3.5mm jack becomes a headphone output for real-time monitoring. The internal battery runs up to 30 hours and recharges over USB-C in about two hours, and can run while charging. A Rycote Lyre shockmount with a sliding rail and cable management, in an aerospace-grade aluminium housing, keeps it steady on a camera or boompole.

Camera and recorder mics are noisy and weak, and carrying one mic for the camera and another for the computer is a hassle. The VideoMic NTG covers both, with the sound of Rode's NTG shotguns in a camera-mount mic that needs no extra adapters.
