This 1/4 CTB gel offers a mild correction, shifting 3200K tungsten lights closer to 4500K. It's perfect for subtle cooling, reducing the orange warmth without eliminating it entirely. At 80x100cm and only 0.0055mm thick, it’s easily handled, cut down, or layered into more complex gel setups. This gel is ideal for portrait photography, commercial shoots, or content creation where skin tones need slight neutralisation without introducing a strong colour cast.

CTB vs CTO Gels
CTO (Colour Temperature Orange) gels are used to warm up daylight-balanced light sources (around 5600K) so they match the warmer hue of tungsten lighting (approximately 3200K). These gels are typically placed over flashes, LEDs, or other daylight-balanced lights when shooting indoors, helping to create a consistent colour temperature across the scene. CTO gels come in varying strengths—full, half, and quarter—to fine-tune the warmth depending on the desired effect or mix of light sources.
CTB (Colour Temperature Blue) gels do the opposite: they cool down tungsten-balanced lights to match daylight. This is useful when using tungsten lights in a setting with natural daylight or daylight-balanced fixtures, ensuring everything blends seamlessly. Like CTOs, CTBs also come in different intensities (full, half, and quarter), allowing for flexibility in colour balancing depending on how much of
Practical Applications – CTB Gels
- Full CTB (1/1): Use when you need to convert a tungsten-balanced light (around 3200K) to daylight (approximately 5600K). Common in situations where you’re using warm lights indoors but want to match them to daylight or daylight-balanced gear.
- 1/2 CTB: Ideal for situations where you want to cool down a warm light slightly without going full daylight. Useful for mimicking early morning or overcast daylight conditions indoors.
- 1/4 CTB: Perfect for subtly reducing the warmth of a tungsten source without losing that cosy feel. Handy for evening shots where you want cooler tones without fully shifting the mood.
- 1/8 CTB: Best when you need just a touch of coolness, maybe to take the orange edge off a tungsten lamp or add a slight crispness to a warm source without dramatically changing the look.
