COB Lights LEDs

Build a powerful studio setup with high-output COB LED lights. Unlike multi-diode panels, point-source Chip-on-Board fixtures pack intense output into a single small chip, producing punchy light that shapes easily with modifiers. Using a point-source LED light gives you sharp shadows when used bare, or soft, directional illumination when paired with softboxes and lanterns for studio continuous lighting.

Most of our Bowens mount LED lights allow you to attach standard softboxes and reflectors without needing custom adapters. Designed with quiet cooling fans and high CRI ratings for accurate colour rendering, these COB video lights deliver dependable output for interviews, commercial shoots, and streaming setups. COB Lights FAQs

COB stands for Chip-on-Board, a modern LED technology where multiple small LED diodes are packed tightly together onto a single circuit board. This creates a dense, singular point-source light that mimics a traditional incandescent bulb or continuous sun beam. Because all the light originates from one concentrated point, COB lights produce sharp shadows and focus easily through light-shaping accessories like softboxes, optical projectors, reflectors, and fresnel lenses.

The main distinction comes down to light structure and modifier flexibility:

  • COB LED Lights: Act as point-source lights with integrated accessory mounts (typically Bowens mounts). They allow you to attach softboxes, lanterns, snoots, and fresnels to shape, diffuse, or spot your beam precisely. They are the standard choice for main key lighting in video production.
  • LED Panel Lights: Feature hundreds of small surface-mounted LEDs spread across a flat grid. They generate broad, soft illumination natively over a short distance, making them ideal for quick setups, tight studio spaces, overhead lighting, and fill light without needing external softboxes.

A Bowens mount is the industry-standard three-prong twist-and-lock mounting ring system used to attach light modifiers to studio lights. Most full-sized COB lights feature a native Bowens mount on the front bezel. This universal mount gives you access to thousands of light-shaping accessories across different brands, including deep parabolic softboxes, stripboxes, lanterns, beauty dishes, optical projection spot attachments, and fresnel lenses.

Godox: Offers the broadest ecosystem across budget (Litemons LE and LA series), ultra-compact heads (ML series), full-spectrum colour accuracy (PaletteLab series), and cinema-grade professional continuous fixtures (Knowled line). Known for robust builds, extensive local support, and reliable wireless Bluetooth app control.

Amaran: A creator-focused line by Aputure featuring lightweight polycarbonate body designs, compact form factors, and integration into the Sidus Link Bluetooth app ecosystem.

Neewer: Entry-level lighting options designed primarily for budget creators, offering basic app features and entry Bowens-mount continuous heads.

Selecting the right LED wattage depends on how far your light sits from your subject and whether you shoot through heavy diffusion:

  • 60W to 100W (e.g., Godox ML100Bi, LA100D): Ideal for close-up vlogging, YouTube face-cam setups, desktop streaming, and rim or hair lighting in small rooms.
  • 150W to 200W (e.g., Godox LE200Bi, LA200Bi): The sweet spot for single-person key lighting inside medium-sized home studios or offices using an 85cm softbox.
  • 300W to 600W+ (e.g., Godox LE300Bi, LA600R): Essential for commercial productions, group interviews, shooting through double-diffused softboxes, or simulating window daylight against bright ambient room lighting.
