Godox MLP26K Optical Snoot: Precise, Controlled Light for Your ML-Series LED

Most light modifiers give you broad output. The Godox MLP26K does the opposite. It's a projection attachment that turns any ML-series LED into a precision optical snoot, focusing the beam to a tight 26 degrees with clean, defined edges.

It mounts directly onto the Godox Native Mount found on all ML-series LEDs, including the ML30, ML60, ML100, ML150, and their Bi and RGB variants. From there, you get a hard-edged spot you can place exactly where you want it. Slot in a gobo from the included set and you can project patterns and textures onto subjects or backgrounds.

At CameraStuff, we carry the full Godox ML ecosystem. If you're doing portrait work, product photography, or cinematic video and need light that goes exactly where you point it, this is worth a close look.

Watch the Godox MLP26K in Action

This Godox overview walks through the MLP Series projection attachment in real creative use. It shows how the gobo sets, iris diaphragm, and lens work together to expand what a compact ML-series LED can do. A good reference if you want to understand the full system before buying into it.

Quick Take: The MLP26K

A compact, well-built projection snoot that earns its place in a creative kit. The beam is clean, the gobo set gives you something useful to start with, and it mounts quickly on any ML-series light. The 26-degree angle is tight enough to isolate a subject without becoming impractical to position. It performs best with the ML60, ML60Bi, or ML100Bi at close to medium range. For ML-series users who want precise creative control without adding bulk or switching to a mains-powered rig, this is the most practical option available.

Godox MLP26K Projection Attachment

A 26° fixed lens delivers a tight, focusable beam with clean edges, producing sharper output than a standard metal snoot. The MLP26K includes a gobo holder, gobo set, and carrying case, and is compatible with all Godox ML-series LEDs via the Godox Native Mount: ML30, ML40, ML60, ML60II, ML80, ML100, ML150, and all Bi and RGB variants. Compact and lightweight, it's built for portable LED rigs on location or in a smaller studio.

Why Standard Modifiers Leave Photographers Short

Standard light modifiers spread light. That's often exactly what you want: a softbox wraps your subject in flattering, low-contrast light; an umbrella fills shadows on a wide set. But there are shoots where spread is the problem, not the solution.

Focused, precise lighting for dramatic effects

Shoot a product on a dark background and a broad modifier causes spill you can't easily contain. Do a dramatic portrait and you want the light to fall only on the face, not wash across the backdrop. Need to project a geometric shape, a window pattern, or a texture onto a surface? A standard snoot cuts spread but won't give you a clean, projectable edge. You need a projector, not a diffuser.

That's the gap the MLP26K fills. Gobos have been used in theatre and film production for decades precisely because controlled, shaped light directs audience attention and creates depth without elaborate set builds. The same logic applies in the studio: controlled light reads as intentional. It tells the viewer where to look. It adds dimension to a flat background. It separates subject from scene in a way that broad soft light cannot.

The challenge has always been that professional projection gear is expensive, mains-dependent, and built for fixed installations. Compact portable options have historically been limited. The Godox ML system, with the MLP26K, addresses that for portable lighting setups.

How the MLP26K Shapes Your Light

The MLP26K uses a fixed 26-degree optical lens mounted in a sealed housing that clips onto the front of your ML-series light. Unlike a basic metal snoot, which blocks light travelling off-axis, an optical snoot uses a lens to collimate and focus the beam. The result is sharper edges, more consistent output, and the ability to project defined shapes rather than a vague circle of light.

The 26-degree angle produces a beam tight enough to isolate a subject or create a defined pool of light on a background. At 1 to 2 metres from the subject, you get a working spot size that's manageable in most studio or on-location environments. Move further away for a wider, softer-edged projection; move closer for a tighter, harder-edged beam.

The included gobo holder sits between the light source and the lens. A gobo is a small metal plate cut with a pattern that slots into the holder. The lens then projects that pattern onto whatever surface you're lighting. The gobo set included in the box gives you a starting range of shapes and textures for portrait, product, and creative work. Additional gobo sets and the optional MLP-ID iris diaphragm are available separately, letting you refine beam size and shape further.

What We Found Testing the MLP26K

Placement and Working Distance

The MLP26K rewards deliberate positioning. At around 1 metre, the beam is compact and intense with sharp edges. At 2 metres, coverage is broader and the edge transitions slightly, which suits background projection more than tight subject highlighting. Test your specific setup rather than relying on rules of thumb. The power output of the ML light you pair it with also affects the final result: the ML100Bi gives you more headroom than the ML60 at distance.

Compatibility Note

The MLP26K uses the Godox Native Mount, which is found on all Godox ML-series LEDs. It will not fit a Bowens-mount light or any AD-series strobe. Confirm your light has the Godox Native Mount before buying. Compatible models include the ML30, ML40, ML60, ML60II, ML80, ML100, ML150, and all Bi and RGB variants. Some users have also found ways to adapt it to certain Godox flash units, though this is not an officially supported use.

The MLP26K for Video Work

For video, the continuous output of ML-series lights removes the complications that come with flash: no recycle time, no sync issues, no shutter angle concerns. Use the MLP26K to create a precise product hero highlight, simulate a cinematic window-light effect, or project texture onto a backdrop that would otherwise read flat on camera. The fact that it's battery-compatible via ML-series lights makes it viable on location, not just in a fixed studio.

Our Verdict on the Godox MLP26K

The Godox MLP26K is a well-executed, practical tool for ML-series LED users who want more creative control over their light. It's compact, mounts quickly, and the gobo set gets you started without any additional spend. Optical quality is solid: edges are clean, output is consistent, and the projection is sharp enough for real creative use.

It's not a replacement for a full projection system if you're running high-powered strobes in a large studio. For that, the BLP or BFP is the right choice. But for anyone shooting with ML-series LEDs, whether on location or in a smaller studio, the MLP26K fills a real gap. It takes a portable LED setup from functional to intentional. We carry the full MLP accessory range at CameraStuff, including additional gobo sets and the iris diaphragm, so you can build out the system as your work develops.

Use a fogger or smoke machine in the scene. The beam cuts right through the haze and you get these rays of light that look very cinematic and very intentional.

MLP26K vs Godox BLP: Which Projection Snoot Do You Need?

Godox BLP

The Godox BLP is the projection attachment built for Bowens-mount LED monolights. It uses interchangeable lenses, with an 85mm lens as standard and a 48mm available separately, and includes a gobo holder, gobo set, and carrying case. The key difference comes down to mount and beam angle: the BLP uses a Bowens mount for higher-powered studio lights, and its beam angle varies depending on which lens is fitted. The MLP26K uses the Godox Native Mount for the ML series and has a fixed 26° lens. If your rig is ML-series and portable, the MLP26K is the right fit. If you're running a mains-powered Bowens setup, the BLP is the better option.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Godox lights is the MLP26K compatible with?

The Godox MLP26K is compatible with all Godox ML-series LEDs via the Godox Native Mount. This includes the ML30, ML40, ML60, ML60II, ML80, ML100, ML150, and all Bi and RGB variants. It is not compatible with Bowens-mount lights or Godox AD-series strobes.

Can I use the MLP26K with a Godox flash strobe?

The MLP26K is designed and rated for use with ML-series LED lights only. Some users have found ways to adapt it to certain Godox flash units, as noted in verified reviews, but this is not an officially supported or manufacturer-recommended use. For strobe-based projection, the Godox BFP is the appropriate accessory.

What are gobos and how do they work with the MLP26K?

A gobo is a small metal plate with a pattern cut out of it. In the MLP26K, the gobo slots into the included gobo holder, which sits between the LED light source and the projection lens. The lens then focuses and projects the pattern onto whatever surface the light is aimed at: a backdrop, a wall, a subject, or a product. The MLP26K includes a gobo set to get you started. Additional sets with different patterns are available separately.

What accessories are available for the MLP26K?

Several accessories expand the MLP26K system. The MLP-ID Iris Diaphragm lets you adjust the size of the projected beam circle. Additional Godox gobo sets give you more pattern options. These are all available at CameraStuff individually, so you can build out the system at your own pace.

Is the MLP26K suitable for video production?

Yes. The MLP26K works well for video because ML-series LED lights are continuous sources: no recycle time, no sync concerns, and no shutter angle complications. It's useful for creating precise product highlights, simulating environmental light effects, or adding texture to backgrounds in cinematic setups. Its compact size also makes it practical for on-location shoots where space and weight matter.
